Kinloch Fire Protection District Volunteers who show strong dedication to their community receive scholarships and paid salary to attend the St. Louis County Fire Academy and EMT School ( Limit 4 per year )

Gain first-hand experience providing emergency services in St. Louis County. Boost yourself, your career, and your community by serving alongside the firefighters of Kinloch.

Firefighter/EMT Duties

  • Respond to emergency calls
  • Connect hoses to truck, fire hydrants, or pumps
  • Operate and drive fire truck and other emergency vehicles
  • Responsible for upkeep and proper storage and care for safety gear
  • Maintain, clean, and repair all firefighting equipment, gear, and tools
  • Train and participate in physical practice drills and activities
  • Provide medical assistance and care
  • Follow all procedures when arriving at scene of fire in a fast and orderly manner
  • Use all tools available to control and extinguish fires
  • Retrieve and rescue occupants of in burning buildings
  • Provide assistance to medical and police teams when arriving at emergency scenes
  • Oversee extinguishing of fires, hazardous materials, oils, and other wastes
  • Report on all emergencies and provide notes for further investigations
  • Respond to medical emergencies in the capacity as an EMT
  • Educate members of the community on fire safety and prevention

Firefighter/EMT Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Current MO EMT-B License
  • Current AHA BLS Provider Card
  • St. Louis County Fire Academy Graduate
  • Must meet all state firefighter training and certification standards
  • Physically able to stand, squat, move, run; able to lift 45 pounds or more on a daily basis; able to lift and rescue victims and those who need medical assistance; able to perform all physical firefighter duties including climbing ladders, using tools, breaking into debris, and moving swiftly in firefighter safety gear
  • Able to work a minimum of 24 hours per week including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong analytical and practical skills are required
  • Able to think fast, and make life-or-death decisions under pressure
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, intense environment
